Man United target Morgan Fox
Louis van Gaal has admitted that Manchester United's defensive options are a little thin of late, and the left-back slot will be a problem position for at least the next six months given Luke Shaw's long-term layoff with a double-leg break.
While Matteo Darmian filled in on the left flank during United's 3-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday, the Mirror reports that the Red Devils are scouting Charlton starlet Morgan Fox for the role.
The 22-year-old Welsh full-back is reportedly on United's radar following his rise to international level, though Charlton are understood to be keen on tying Fox to a new deal with Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham also interested. Van Gaal has backed Shaw to return strong for United, but the Dutch coach has ruthlessly proved in the past two summers that he doesn't trade on sentiment alone.
Villa seek Guzan alternative
Could United States international Brad Guzan be on his way out of Villa Park? The Mirror reports that Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood is looking for a replacement for the 31-year-old goalkeeper, and has set his sights on Mainz's Loris Karius.
Karius was on the books at Manchester City between 2009 and 2012, joined Mainz on loan and ended up staying there for good. The 22-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga, and is a Germany under-21 international at present.
Guzan has gone through recent spells of making top stops while also letting in soft goals, and Karius could be a young, inexpensive option should Sherwood decide to go with a younger No. 1.
Liverpool eye Croatian starlet
Rog in, Rodgers out? While Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool future is decidedly unclear despite a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, you can't escape the feeling that the coach is living on borrowed time at Anfield.
Still, the world keeps on turning for Liverpool players and their potential future teammates, with The Sun reporting that the Merseyside club are keen on launching another bid for Croatian winger Marko Rog.
The 20-year-old made the move to Dinamo Zagreb this summer after impressing at RNK Split last season with nine goals in 44 appearances, and could provide that dash of flair that Liverpool are sorely lacking at present. But the real question is whether Rodgers will still be at the club to enjoy Rog's talent if he does join in January ...
Chelsea step up Porto chase
Ruben Neves should be a name familiar to avid Transfer Talk fans, with the young Porto midfielder linked with Chelsea in recent weeks. The Premier League champions have reportedly sounded out the 18-year-old defensive midfielder to solve their current problems, and the Daily Star reports that Jose Mourinho is set to use the Blues' Champions League trip to Portugal on Tuesday to step up their chase for the youngster.
According to the Star, Neves "shows maturity combined with an accurate passing skill, great vision and an astute sense of positioning" -- a player Chelsea could certainly do with at the moment, by the sounds of it.
Porto list names of visiting scouts to matches, and Chelsea sent representatives along with Real Madrid. The Star reports that considering Mourinho knows his old club inside out, it's more likely that Neves was the subject of their interest rather than a mere pre-match check-up. Expect these rumours to grow towards January.
Palace pair living in the present
It's all going on at Crystal Palace -- Bakary Sako has revealed that he turned down "crazy money" on order to join the Eagles. The 27-year-old midfielder told the Star: "I had opportunities in Spain, France, Qatar and Dubai -- but it was always the Premier League for me. I did actually come here for less money.
"I could have gone to Qatar or Dubai for crazy money but at my age I am not playing for money. Maybe I can do that when I am older. I took less money because my ultimate dream was playing in the Premier League. Now it is to finish in a good position."
Meanwhile, 26-year-old winger Yannick Bolasie has signed a new three-and-a-half year-deal at Selhurst Park, but Alan Pardew has still not ruled out the prospect of losing the star if the right offer comes in.
"My first priority is to secure him and develop him," Pardew said. "And if I can develop him and take this club forward, that's great. And if a big club comes, we can take that money and use it to take the club forward. It's a simple equation."
It seems Palace, Sako and Bolasie are all being pragmatic about the situation they face -- a refreshing approach given some of the transfer tantrums we witnessed this summer!
