Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is set to pick his squad for the preseason tour of the United States this week, and among the established stars like David De Gea and Paul Pogba, there will be one or two youngsters to make up the numbers.
With five games in the U.S. over the next month, there should be plenty of chances to impress. For the youngsters, the tour represents a chance to train in front of Mourinho every day, possibly play in one or two games, and make a case to be included in the first-team squad next season.
Axel Tuanzebe travelled to China last summer as part of a 25-man squad and ended the season having made five first-team appearances. The youth team players making the trip to Los Angeles on Sunday will have the same goal.
Here's a look at five young players who could be included.
Demetri Mitchell
Demetri Mitchell was only converted into a left-back last season, but he impressed in the Under-23s so much that he made his first-team debut there against Crystal Palace.
If the 20-year-old travels to the U.S., he will have a good chance of playing. Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo are injured, leaving Mourinho with Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind (neither of whom are natural left-backs) as his only options. Mitchell didn't look out of his depth against Palace and is a candidate for a spot on the plane to Los Angeles.
Scott McTominay
Scott McTominay was another who made his first-team debut last season, and like Mitchell, he started in the win over Palace on the final day of the season.
United's move for Chelsea's Nemanja Matic is yet to reach a conclusion, and there could be a space for an extra central midfielder on the tour. Mourinho won't want Pogba and Ander Herrera playing in too many games before another busy season. Tall and strong, McTominay is the type of midfielder Mourinho is fond of. He can also do a job up front, having played there for the reserves.
Callum Gribbin
Callum Gribbin is one of the most naturally gifted young players in United's academy. Nicky Butt picked the forward and teammate Marcus Rashford as ones to watch after a spell charge of the U-19s. But while Rashford got his chance in the first team and kicked on, Gribbin, 18, is still waiting. Still, he is one of the players United's academy staff are most excited about.
He has trained with the first team before, and while it would be a surprise if Gribbin was included in the tour squad, it didn't stop Mourinho handing Angel Gomes his debut last season.
Matty Willock
Matty Willock was unlucky not to make his senior debut last season. He was on the bench for games against West Brom and Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, but he didn't get the chance to come on.
Rangers have shown an interest in the 20-year-old midfielder this summer, but he has signed a new contract at United and looks set to play a key role for the Under-23s next season. A place in the tour squad would be a big boost after coming so close to featuring for the first team last season. Willock's 19-year-old brother, Chris, a striker, signed for Benfica last week after leaving Arsenal.
Joel Pereira
Joel Pereira is highly rated at United, particularly by Mourinho, who has said he expects the goalkeeper to become Portugal's No.1 in the not-too-distant future. There could be as many as four goalkeepers in the tour squad, of which Pereira should be one. Dean Henderson or Kieran O'Hara would also be in with a shout if Mourinho decides he needs another pair of hands.
Mourinho likes to have three goalkeepers in his squad, and it's likely Pereira will stay at Old Trafford next season after a short spell on loan during the last campaign. Sam Johnstone is still at the club, but with a number of offers on the table, he could leave before the end of the transfer window.
