Zlatan woe, Russia flop and Turkey heartbreak in Euro 2016 group exits

The group stages of Euro 2016 are complete and for eight teams, the dream is over. Ukraine were the first to go while Republic of Ireland's dramatic winner against Italy meant heartbreak for Turkey.

Elsewhere, the curtain came down on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Sweden career with a disappointing exit, while Russia endured a nightmare tournament.

Our ESPN FC bloggers give their quick take on how they fared and if you click on each country, you'll get an in-depth look back at their exploits in France.

TURKEY: A cruel way to be eliminated as Ireland scored late to pip them to a third-best place but, upon reflection, fans will accept Fatih Terim's side didn't do enough to deserve to qualify. The moral of the story is to not rely on what others teams do but on yourself. -- Eren Sarigul

SWEDEN: Erik Hamren's men were only going to go as far as Ibrahimovic could take them and in the end, the talisman just wasn't at the top of his game. -- Mattias Karen

AUSTRIA: Marcel Koller's men disappointingly couldn't meet high expectations and there's a lot of work to be done in order to build a team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. -- Marco Stein

ALBANIA: The team were eliminated with their heads held high, having recorded a victory in their first appearance at an international competition -- and nearly qualifying to the knockout phase. -- Maher Mezahi

CZECH REPUBLIC: The organisation Pavel Vrba imparted was talked up before the tournament began, but in the end it was undone by the manager's over-reliance on old legs and old names. -- Kirsten Schlewitz

RUSSIA: An absolutely disastrous performance just two years before hosting the World Cup proves that Russia need to build the team from scratch. -- Michael Yokhin

ROMANIA: Romania's final game with Albania was one of the worst losses in the country's Euro history and meant the absolute defeat of a rotten system. -- Emanuel Rosu

UKRAINE: Andriy Yarmolenko's description of the 2-0 defeat vs. Northern Ireland --"shameful" -- perfectly sums up Ukraine's Euro 2016 campaign as a whole. -- Alex Sereda
