Nathaniel Clyne leaving Liverpool's U.S. tour; Naby Keita sidelined

SHORT HILLS, N.J. -- Liverpool announced that Nathaniel Clyne is returning home early from the club's preseason tour of the United States for "family reasons."

Clyne left Liverpool's New Jersey base on Thursday to fly back to Merseyside and he will therefore miss the team's final International Champions Cup match with Manchester United in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Saturday.

The right-back is scheduled to link back up with his teammates at Liverpool's four-day training camp in Evian, France, next week.

A statement on Liverpool's website said: "Nathaniel Clyne has been granted permission by Jurgen Klopp to return home from Liverpool's United States tour early for family reasons."

Clyne featured in Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Manchester City at MetLife Stadium on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Liverpool say Naby Keita will sit out training for the "next couple of days" as a precaution with a sore neck.

Manager Jurgen Klopp said on Wednesday that Keita sustained the issue after sleeping awkwardly on Tuesday, which is why he was an omission from the City win.

However, the club have not ruled out the possibility of the midfielder featuring in the upcoming United game.
