Javier Aquino the main man for Tigres in Liga MX Week 16

Javier Aquino stole the show in Liga MX's latest round of fixtures; the speedy midfielder was easily man of the match in Tigres' 3-1 win over Veracruz last Friday.

Aquino had little trouble on the left wing and was lethal with his passing and movement in the game. The Mexican star has regained confidence on his return to Liga MX and in contrast to his last season with Rayo Vallecano in Spain, the 25-year-old plays a significant starting role with Tigres.

With Aquino leading this week's list, let's check out the top 10 players from Week 16 of the Apertura ...

1. Javier Aquino, MF, Tigres

Aquino was the catalyst of Tigres' attack in their win over Veracruz. The midfielder was excellent with the ball at his feet and finished the victory against Los Tiburones Rojos with a goal and two assists. Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio may experiment with the player in the upcoming match against El Salvador on Nov 13.

2. Segundo Castillo, MF, Dorados

The veteran single-handedly gave Dorados three points against Chivas last Saturday. Castillo, with two late goals in the match, pushed the home side to a massive 2-1 win against the visiting Chivas. The 33-year-old's initial goal in the 79th minute was his first of the season.

3. Silvio Romero, FW, Chiapas

Romero was by far the best player for Chiapas in their 3-2 win over Atlas. Thanks to the striker's two goals in just four minutes, Los Jaguares have kept their playoff hopes alive.

4. Paulo Da Silva, DF, Toluca

The defender constantly intercepted the ball from Cruz Azul's attackers and provided the assist for his side's first goal in Saturday's 2-1 win. A few may point out the captain's mistake which led to La Maquina's only goal of the game but it was ultimately a small blemish in an excellent game for the Paraguayan.

5. Pablo Velazquez, FW, Morelia

Velazquez scored twice against Santos Laguna and helped claim a vital 3-2 away win last Friday. It was a fine performace -- at least in attack. In the 92nd minute, he made a horribly timed tackle and was shown a red card.

6. Mauro Boselli, FW, Leon

What else could Boselli have done for Leon? The striker found the back of the net twice for Los Panzas Verdes and had numerous shots on target. Leon has thrived in attack, but with each passing week, it's becoming increasingly obvious the team's defense is struggling. Even with Boselli's goals, Leon slumped to a 3-2 loss to Pachuca.

7. Luis Quintana, DF, Pumas

An excellent game for the Pumas defender. Quintana scored Pumas' first goal in the 2-1 victory over Queretaro and held the visiting side to just one goal. A promising showing for the 23-year-old Mexican player.

8. Carlos Rodriguez, GK, Morelia

Despite the fact that Rodriguez let in two goals, the goalkeeper had one of the better games in goal during Week 16. With five saves in the 3-2 win over Santos Laguna, the 26-year-old had a noteworthy match.

9. Aquivaldo Mosquera, DF, Pachuca

A key player for Pachuca. Mosquera was near-perfect with his passing and scored Pachuca's second goal against Leon. It was the defender's third goal goal in the Apertura for Los Tuzos.

10. Franco Arizala, MF, Atlas

Despite losing the match to Chiapas, Arizala stood out with a goal and an assist for Atlas. With his quick movement in the box, the Colombian's goal was one of the best from the weekend.
