Getafe 1-2 Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao survived a late scare to beat Getafe 2-1 away from home and bolster their fine recent record to an impressive four wins in six Primera Division matches.Mikel San Jose and Benat struck towards the end of either half to earn victory, before Angel Lafita's goal in injury time spurred an even later scramble in the Athletic box. However, Ernesto Valverde's side clung on to move to 18 points in the Primera Division, opening up a distance of four points over their hosts from Madrid.Getafe had lost their previous match to Villarreal despite being the better side for large periods at El Madrigal, but they were comfortably the second best team in front of their own fans until the attempted fightback in the closing stages.Athletic got forward far more often than the hosts from the off, at first creating a series of half-chances, such as Mikel Rico's deflected shot from the edge of the area which Vicente Guaita caught, and Aritz Aduriz's wayward volley.Benat then also tested the goalkeeper, and a few moments later Aduriz was inches away from reaching a through-ball which would have given him a clear run at goal.Athetic took the lead their pressure warranted in the 36th minute.Benat sent in an inswinging corner and San Jose broke free at the near post, glancing a header into the far corner of the net to score his first goal of the season.Getafe improved in the second half, creating a clear chance when Baba Diawara leaped acrobatically to get on the end of Alvaro Arroyo's cross, but Gorka Iraizoz was able to pluck the ball out of the air.The goalkeeper was tested again by Sergio Escudero's shot from the edge of the area but was equal to it, and was called into action later to prevent Angel Lafita from turning home a loose ball in the box. With three minutes remaining San Jose almost scored an identical goal to his opener, but this time glanced his header beyond the far post.Just two minutes later, though, Benat appeared to have sealed the points anyway. The former Betis midfielder went for goal from a free-kick right on the edge of the area and although Aduriz and Iker Muniain served to distract Guaita, neither player got a touch on the ball, which crept in at the far corner.Benat, like San Jose, was able to celebrate getting off the mark this season. However, with the match seemingly lost, Getafe attacked immediately down the left and Fredy Hinestroza found space to cross for Lafita to head home at the near post in the first minute of stoppage time. The Coliseum Alfonso Perez roared into life and Getafe almost got an equaliser.Pedro Leon, who had earlier come off the bench to make his first appearance of the season, forced a corner and Emiliano Velazquez headed towards the far post but was denied by the fist of Iraizoz. Another corner followed, but Athletic cleared their lines and the final whistle sounded.ends
