Rober Ibanez boosts Leganes to victory over Osasuna

Leganes pulled four points clear of La Liga's relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over Osasuna at the Estadio Butarque.

The club from the Madrid suburbs were ahead after five minutes through Rober Ibanez, and he added a second 12 minutes into the second half to wrap up the win.

The result ended a run of four straight defeats for Leganes, while for Osasuna, playing their first game under new coach Joaquin Caparros, it was a third defeat from four games and they remain third bottom.

Leganes had scored none and conceded nine in their three previous matches but made the ideal start as Ibanez swept them ahead.

Diego Rico crossed from the left and although the Osasuna defence were able to crowd out Gabriel's headed effort, the ball broke to Ibanez to finish calmly with his right foot.

He showed less composure when he skied an effort over the bar two minutes later.

Rico was impressive as an attacking force and almost laid on a second goal in the 33rd minute. His driven ball from the left reached Brazilian forward Luciano, who teed himself up for a scissors kick which drifted wide of Nauzet Perez's left-hand post.

The Osasuna goalkeeper made an unorthodox save with a minute of the half remaining, sticking out his left foot to block Gabriel's drilled set-piece attempt that found a way through the defensive wall.

The visitors failed to get a single effort on target in the first half and the best they mustered in the second half was an unconvincing volley from Oier straight into the midriff of Leganes goalkeeper Jon Ander Serantes 10 minutes into the second period.

The game was effectively over two minutes later when Ibanez made a diagonal run from right to left and beat Nauzet at his near post with a shot from a tight angle.
