Glabach's Havard Nordtveit could stay despite Liverpool link - Max Eberl

Borussia Monchengladbach still hope that coveted midfielder Havard Nordtveit will commit his future to the club, sporting director Max Eberl has said.

Nordtveit, 25, came through the ranks at Arsenal and moved to Gladbach in January 2011, where he immediately won a place in the starting lineup as the Foals battled relegation.

This year, the Norwegian entered the final six months of his current deal at Borussia Park and has so far not committed his future to the club, for whom he has made 158 Bundesliga appearances.

His performances, mainly in holding midfield but also at full-back or centre-back, have seen him linked with both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, with English media reports suggesting he could end up at Anfield.

But Eberl told Sport Bild:"We have made him a very, very good offer, and I am still optimistic that we can retain Howie.

Nordtveit, who in a TV interview had previously indicated he could make a decision this week, said there was nothing new to report.

"I meant weeks, not a week," he said. "My agent is on holiday right now, and we'll see about the rest when he returns."
