Napoli's Jonathan De Guzman set for Chievo transfer - agent

Napoli's Jonathan De Guzman is set to complete a move to Chievo in the next few days, his agent has confirmed.

De Guzman, 28, spent the second half of last season on loan at Carpi, where he only made five appearances, and having failed to force his way into Maurizio Sarri's plans since returning to Napoli, he is now set to leave the Serie A club for good.

"We're discussing it and we had a meeting yesterday," his agent Fabio Parisi told Radio CRC. "It's possible that we will reach a solution very quickly, which would be ideal for all involved.

"There are just a few minor things to iron out and, for this, we are waiting for Napoli to get back to us as quickly as possible. If they give their consent, then the transfer [to Chievo] could be formalised in the coming days."

De Guzman joined Napoli Swansea in 2014 with Rafa Benitez instrumental in his arrival.

"Benitez is an icon of international football," the Dutchman said at his presentation. "He's a tactical maestro and spending just one week with him has already taught me a lot."

The Canada-born midfielder played 23 times under the Spaniard, who was replaced by Sarri a year ago. Since the former Empoli coach took charge, however, De Guzman has not seen any more action for Napoli and a transfer two years before the end of his contract appears to be the only solution.
