Sevilla defender Adil Rami interested in making move to Marseille

Adil Rami has said Marseille are keen to acquire him this summer and that he is considering leaving Sevilla after two seasons with the Spanish club.

Rami, 31, is under contract with Sevilla until June 2019 but has said there is a chance he could leave this summer.

Marseille have made an approach, according to the France international, who is interested in the prospect of joining the Ligue 1 side.

"Yes, there is an interest from Olympique Marseille," Rami is quoted as saying by AS. "My agents are in charge of that. It's a very interesting project and the club wants to point very high. It is a great challenge."

Rami played for current Marseille coach Rudi Garcia for three seasons at Lille and won the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France Double in 2011. The centre-back then left for Valencia that summer.

"The fact that I know the Marseille technical staff would be important," Rami said. "I know the coach and his philosophy. He also knows my character. That is a plus."

Marseille appointed Garcia in October and the former Roma coach spoke about his ambition and determination to lead the French side back into Europe after a disappointing 13th-place finish in the 2015-16 campaign.

Marseille are on course to qualify for the Europa League as they are fifth in the Ligue 1 standings this season with two games remaining.

Rami joined Sevilla for a reported €3.5 million transfer in the summer of 2015 after just 18 months at AC Milan. He was a vital player for a Sevilla side that won the Europa League last season and has made 32 starts in all competitions this term, including 21 in La Liga.

Rami previously spoke about his future back in December and said that he was happy to be playing at Sevilla and competing in La Liga.

The Andalusian club do not know whether their coach Jorge Sampaoli will remain at the club next season, with the Argentine being tempted with an offer to take the helm of his country's national team. Sevilla are currently fourth in La Liga with two games of the season remaining.
