Olic, 34, will be out of contract at the end of the season, but despite having at one stage appeared ready to sign an extension with the Wolves, he is now considering his future carefully.

The Croatia international has long been linked with a switch to Stoke, and according to media reports on Wednesday, he will announce his plans in the near future.

“I just want to be 100 percent certain where I’ll play next season before I say anything official. But that will happen over the next few days,” Olic told Sport Bild.

The paper reports that Olic would earn 2.5 million euros a year at Stoke, having been offered a one-year deal plus an option for an extra year.

In recent weeks, Olic has dropped down the pecking order at Wolfsburg and has often had to make way for in-form attacker Bas Dost.

Struggling for first-team football, he opted to meet with Stoke manager Mark Hughes in Berlin a couple of weeks ago to discuss a potential move to the Potters.

“When I went for talks I said to Hughes: 'I'll get a sore neck from your long balls. Who's going to chase them all up?’” Olic told Sportske Novosti.

“He [Hughes] said: 'We don't play like that anymore, we want to play European-style football.' But I haven't decided yet. I'd like to 'taste' Anfield and Old Trafford. Wolfsburg people are insisting I should stay and I'm not excluding that option.”

Sport Bild also mentions a third possible destination for Olic, with former club Hamburg apparently interested.

The Bundesliga outfit are currently involved in a relegation battle, however, and Olic has no plans to end his career in Germany’s second tier.
