Ivica Olic seals Hamburg move from Wolfsburg

Ivica Olic has returned to Hamburg from Wolfsburg on an 18-month contract, HSV have announced.

Olic, 35, said it had been his "dream" to return to HSV, where he had scored 29 goals in 78 games between 2007 and 2009.

The former Croatia international, who left Hamburg for Bayern Munich before joining Wolfsburg in 2012, returns to a club that narrowly avoided relegation last season and is currently only outside the drop zone on goal difference.

Olic, who scored five goals for Wolfsburg this season, told the media at his unveiling: "With my two boys, I have followed Hamburg's games. Sometimes we were happy and sometimes we were sad.

"It has long been my idea to return to Hamburg. When I left Bayern for Wolfsburg, I had asked my agent whether Hamburg was an option, but at that time they had other plans."

Olic is set to go straight into the squad for Hamburg's game at home to 11th-placed Cologne on Saturday as coach Josef Zinnbauer looks to add firepower to a squad that has scored just nine goals in the 17 Bundesliga games this season.

Earlier this week, Wolfsburg had blocked the Olic transfer, but late on Thursday changed their plans and told their attacker he was free to the club, with Andre Schurrle expected to complete a move to the Volkswagon Arena before the transfer deadline.
