Manchester United have confirmed that defender Marnick Vermijl has joined Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee.
Vermijl, 23, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Championship side after failing to break into Louis van Gaal's first-team.

A statement on United's official website read: "Vermijl played more games for United's reserves and Under-21 teams than any other member of the squad, operating in either his regular role at right-back or in the more central position he adapted to under coach Warren Joyce's tutelage.
"After arriving from Standard Liege in 2010, Vermijl made his senior debut for the Reds against Newcastle United in the League Cup in 2012 and also played in the competition this season away to Milton Keynes Dons.
"The young Belgian heads to Hillsborough in search of regular first-team football and will find at least one familiar face in the dressing room after Reds striker Will Keane joined the Owls on loan. Everybody at United wishes Marnick the very best of luck for the future."
Vermijl -- who will wear the No. 36 shirt for Wednesday -- told the Championship club's official website: "It's definitely a big step upwards and I'm looking forward to playing for Wednesday.
"That's the main aim, to play as many games as I can. I've come to an age that I need to start playing now, and I think Wednesday is the right club for me at the moment.
"I spoke to [Will Keane] a lot the last few days and he talked me into it as well."
