MADRID -- Malaga have confirmed their Brazilian defender Weligton sustained a muscle injury to his left leg during the club's 2-1 home loss to Barcelona at the weekend.
The club says the 36-year-old center back underwent a scan on Monday, confirming an injury to the anterior quadriceps muscle in his left leg.
A statement said Weligton will begin rehabilitation on Tuesday and the recovery process "will determine his availability" for forthcoming matches. Malaga's next game is away at Eibar on Jan 30.
Malaga are 12th in La Liga with 24 points following 21 rounds.
Barcelona lead the standings on 48, ahead of Atletico Madrid, courtesy of a better goal difference, with Real Madrid third on 44.
