Leicester City have held talks with midfielder Gokhan Inler's agent about his future, Press Association Sport has reported.
Inler's representative Dino Lamberti has held negotiations with the Premier League champions after the 31-year-old's disappointing first season in England.
No decision has been made, but Inler hinted last season that he could leave the King Power Stadium following his lack of action.
In January, he said he had other options, but stayed to be loyal to manager Claudio Ranieri.
Schalke have a long-standing interest after they Leicester beat them to Inler's signature when signing him from Napoli for £5 million last summer.
The Switzerland international did not play for the Foxes after January and was dropped for his country's Euro 2016 squad despite captaining them in qualifying.
Ex-Udinese man Inler made only five league appearances for the Foxes last season as they won the Premier League title by 10 points.
His most recent league appearance for Leicester came in their 0-0 draw with Manchester City in December, but he then played in January's FA Cup exit to Tottenham Hotspur.
Leicester have been linked with a move for Nice midfielder Nampalys Mendy, who would introduce further competition for Inler.
