Aston Villa sign defender Ritchie De Laet from Leicester City

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Ritchie De Laet on a three-year deal from Leicester City.

De Laet, 27, joins Villa for an undisclosed fee and becomes their seventh summer signing following Mile Jedinak, Ross McCormack, Aaron Tshibola, James Chester, Pierluigi Gollini and Tommy Elphick into the club.

Roberto Di Matteo welcomed the defender's arrival, telling Villa's official website: "I'm pleased to have brought Ritchie to the Club.

"He is another player who not only has Championship experience but has also played a part in helping a team win promotion back to the Premier League."

De Laet spent the first half of last season at Premier League winners Leicester before spending the second part of the season on loan in the Championship with Middlesbrough who were promoted as title winners.

The former Manchester United man also helped Leicester win the Championship in 2014.

Leicester tweeted their thanks, saying: "Ritchie played his part in both our Championship and Premier League title wins. We thank him for his hard work and wish him every success."
