Timm Klose happy at Norwich City despite relegation to Championship

Norwich City defender Timm Klose has said he is happy playing in the Championship despite the club turning down a bid from West Bromwich Albion in the summer.

Switzerland international Klose, 28, joined Norwich from Wolfsburg during the January window but was unable to help them avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Klose, who missed Euro 2016 through injury, told Neue Zurcher Zeitung he had considered making an early exit from Carrow Road amid concerns over his international future.

"I weighed up my options," he said. "I did not want to lose my place in the national team without a fight, but it was also clear that it will be difficult to show what I could do at another club.

"There were offers, and we looked at the one we received from West Bromwich, but Norwich turned down the offer."

Klose has featured in 10 of Norwich's 11 league games so far and is enjoying life in the Championship, with the Canaries currently second in the table.

"The overall package fits," he said. "I can live out my passion here. I play football out of passion. I don't primarily earn my living for the family because my background forces me to do so. I am on the pitch mainly for the emotions."

He said he was surprised by the "intensity" of Championship, and also by the standard of football.

"Sure, you won't find a Kevin De Bruyne in this league -- but compared to the Premier League it is somewhat tougher and at least wilder," he said. "Five defend without compromise, and five attack unconditionally.

"It's elbows out in the box, and everyone's strong in the air. There are several Harry Kanes."
