Transfer Talk: Manchester rivals poised to go at it over Nice's Jean-Michael Seri

Clubs are slowly turning their eyes toward the summer window, and Transfer Talk has the updates on all the latest rumours.

Manchester rivals set on Seri collision course

Manchester United and Manchester City are poised for a summer scrap to recruit Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Reports on Monday said United boss Jose Mourinho would make freshening up his midfield a priority, with Seri high on a list of several targets.

But the Ivory Coast international is also admired by City manager Pep Guardiola, and now the Manchester rivals are set to go head-to-head for his signature.

The Evening News says United "will sign at least one midfielder to replace the retiring Michael Carrick, while City are looking for a long-term successor to Fernandinho."

But City's interest in Seri could spell the end of any move for Shakhtar Donetsk's Fred, who seemed likely to join them in January, with the report suggesting his representatives "are no longer confident of a deal being resurrected."

Meanwhile, the Mail reports that City striker Gabriel Jesus "is ready to put talks over a new contract on ice until the summer after turning down an offer of £90,000 a week."

However, it says the Brazil international is still on course for an improved one-year extension until 2023, adding that "it is anticipated a compromise will be reached and he will commit his long-term future to the club."

The player's representatives are thought to believe he is "deserving of more than £100,000 a week," but he wants to focus on the Premier League and Champions League, and then the World Cup, before turning his attention to his City deal.

Spurs, Chelsea must spend big for Maddison

Tottenham or Chelsea will have to pay £25 million if they are to sign Norwich City midfielder James Maddison, the Mirror reports.

It says the London rivals "lead the chase" for Maddison as the Canaries gear up for "a summer auction," with Everton and Manchester City also interested in him.

But any club wanting to sign the England under-21 international will need to meet a valuation that reflects his status as one of the brightest prospects outside the top division.

The Mirror reports that Norwich "are determined to get a big price for the goal-scoring midfielder and believe that is fair, bearing in mind some recent transfers."

Former Coventry City player Maddison, 21, has scored 14 goals and created 10 more this season.

-- Andy King has spent his footballing life at Leicester, beginning his stint with the Foxes at the age of 15, but the Leicester Mercury reports that a permanent move to Swansea is moving ever closer.

It says King "will be allowed to leave in the summer -- but only if he wants to" after falling down first-team pecking order, with the Swans ready to wrap up a full-time switch.

-- Sunderland are set to move for two of the players who have helped Shrewsbury Town to the top of League One, the Shropshire Star reports.

Black Cats boss Chris Coleman was in attendance at Saturday's game against AFC Wimbledon to run the rule over midfielder Jon Nolan and defender Toto Nsiala with a view to a double transfer.
