Premier Soccer League champions Bidvest Wits endured another wretched afternoon on Sunday following a 1-0 defeat to Bloemfontein Celtic.
The Students clinched a maiden title last season, but have been woeful in the start of their defence, winning just one of their opening six games.
That run got worse at Celtic, who scored the winner with 15 minutes remaining through Roggert Nyundu following a lightning quick counter-attack.
The result leaves Wits down in 15th place with five points from seven games, while Celtic move up to seventh, four points better off.
In the day's other game, Mamelodi Sundowns moved up to fifth after a narrow 1-0 win at bottom club Platinum Stars. The only goal was scored in the second minute -- Khama Billiat with a clever finish after a beautiful pass from Hlompho Kekana.
