Buriram United have sealed a record-extending 8th Thai League 1 title as they were crowned domestic champions for the first time since 2018 on Sunday, following a 2-0 win over Nongbua Pitchaya.

Supachok Sarachat fired the Thunder Castle ahead on the half-hour mark with a close-range finish, before second-half goals by Theerathon Bunmathan and Ayub Masika wrapped up the three points.

The win saw Buriram extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points, a now-unassailable margin for second-placed BG Pathum United even if they win both their remaining matches of the campaign.

The triumph also sees Buriram reclaim their place at the summit of Thai football after their dominance -- having won six titles between 2011 and 2018 -- was recently challenged by Chiangrai United and BG Pathum United, who were champions in the past two seasons respectively.

By virtue of being 2021-22 Thai League 1 champions, Buriram have also secured a place in next year's AFC Champions League although they will be absent from this year's edition having lost to South Korea's Daegu FC on penalties in last month's qualifying playoffs.
