BUFORD, Ga. -- The Buford Youth Sports Complex, located on the campus of Buford High School, hosted the Atlanta Nike Football Training Camp on Saturday afternoon. There were plenty of Peach State prospects, yet some of the top performers hailed from out of state. More than 240 players attended the Nike Camp, and seven athletes earned an opportunity to participate in The Opening following their camp efforts. Several prospects entered the camp holding offers and there were several stellar performances, but only 26 can be named to the Atlanta All-Nike Camp team.
Note: Selections are based upon feedback from NFTC position coaches as well as past and projected on-field performance. Athletes are in the Class of 2013 unless otherwise noted.
TOP PERFORMER
LB Reuben Foster, 6-1, 246, Auburn (Ala.)
The nation's No. 2 prospect in the ESPN 150 entered the camp with the top billing, and he cemented his lofty status by earning LB MVP. Foster is an attacking downhill 'backer with great short-area burst and explosion. He closes well and makes others around him better. The rocked out linebacker is very fluid with his change of direction. Foster shined in drills before gearing down due to a mild injury. He was awarded with an invite to The Opening after a great camp showing.
TOP UNDERCLASSMAN
WR Demarre Kitt ('14), 6-0, 196, Sandy Creek (Tyrone, Ga.)
Kitt stood out in a deep group of pass catchers. He is very smooth and went against the top DBs in one-on-one's and the half-field 7-on-7 period. The Georgia commit is very mature for his age and likes to set up defenders with a change-of-pace move. He isn't a burner, but he can get downfield in a hurry when tracking the ball in flight. The super sophomore is a savvy player who knows how to get open and will be a solid WR for the 'Dawgs when he arrives in Athens.
OFFENSE
QB: Joshua Dobbs, 6-3, 183, Alpharetta (Ga.)
Breakdown: Dobbs followed up his stand out Elite 11 performance in Dallas by winning the QB MVP in Atlanta. Named to the Class 5A honorable mention all-state team after throwing for over 3,000 yards and 31 scores in 2011.
RB: Alvin Kamara, 5-10, 190, Norcross (Ga.)
Breakdown: Kamara captured the RB MVP after dominating run-blocking drills and catching the ball effortlessly in one-on-one's. Selected to The Opening and could be one of the most versatile backs in attendance out in Oregon.
RB: Trey Burks, 5-8, 184, Tullahoma (Tenn.)
Breakdown: Displayed good blocking skills and quick feet. Burks played with confidence and is very elusive. Rushed for 1,564 yards and 27 touchdowns last year.
WR: Cameron Luper, 5-11, 183, Auburn (Ala.)
Breakdown: Great frame with a muscular build. Luper made a ton of plays in one-on-one's including a one-handed grab against Sandy Creek (Tyrone, Ga.) DB Shaq Wiggins.
WR: Deangelo Yancey, 6-1.5, 200, Mays (Atlanta, Ga.)
Breakdown: Yancey has impressed on the camp and combine circuit this spring. He is a hand catcher and hard worker. His first offer should be just around the corner.
WR: Ryan Jenkins, 5-10.5, 182, Lassiter (Marietta, Ga.)
Breakdown: Scored the WR MVP in crowded field. Speedy and ultra-quick wideout that is just scratching the surface. Jenkins landed a spot in The Opening.
WR: Myles Campbell, 5-5.5, 147, Duluth (Ga.)
Breakdown: The diminutive flanker caught nearly everything thrown his way and is as quick as they come. Campbell was able to beat press coverage and create separation consistently.
OL: Shamire Devine, 6-6, 354, Tri-Cities (East Point, Ga.)
Breakdown: The OL MVP has long arms that allow him to excel in pass protection. Devine has heavy hands and was able to stone pass rushers with his punch. He will be taking his talents to The Opening this July.
OL: Jeremi Hall, 6-4.5, 365, Tri-Cities (East Point, Ga.)
Breakdown: Massive physical player who looked fantastic at guard. Hall bullied most DTs and showed nimble feet for a player his size.
OL: Orlando Brown ('14), 6-8, 370, Peachtree Ridge (Suwanee, Ga.)
Breakdown: Only 15 years old, but his instincts, patience, and timing in pass protection is off the charts according to the OL coaches. He will need to watch his weight and continue to harness his ability. The son of the late Orlando Brown has all the tools to be special down the road.
OL: Bradley Bozeman, 6-5, 304, Handley (Roanoke, Ala.)
Breakdown: Bozeman is very polished and strong at the point of attack. Stout body type will enable him to be a force as a run blocker at the next level.
DEFENSE
DL: Ulric Jones, 6-6, 259, Oxford (Ala.)
Breakdown: Excellent frame and strength. Lines up at DE, but could slide down inside in college. Jones is raw and his technique needs some refinement as a pass rusher although he has all the tools to be a dominant player.
DL: Marcus Adams, 5-11.5, 296, Tri-Cities (East Point, Ga.)
Breakdown: Adams joined teammate Devine with the DL MVP award. He holds offers from Middle Tennessee State, Ole Miss and TCU.
DL: David Johnson, 6-0.5, 254, Lithonia (Ga.)
Breakdown: Big, strong 3-4 type of DE. Johnson needs to improve his hand placement and pass rush moves. Right now his game is power and will get better with more reps. Auburn, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt have offered, among others.
LB: Chequan Burkett, 6-2, 198, Jefferson Davis (Montgomery, Ala.)
Breakdown: Quick-twitch LB with safety size and agility. Burkett has a long reach and projects as a weakside linebacker. Still waiting for his first offer, but that should change by fall.
LB: Trey Johnson, 6-1.5, 218, Central Gwinnett (Lawrenceville, Ga.)
Breakdown: Johnson has put on twenty pounds since last year's Georgia Nike Camp. The Auburn commit hasn't lost his quickness with the added muscle and showed he is a complete linebacker on Saturday.
LB: Reggie Carter, 6-0.5, 221, South Gwinnett (Snellville, Ga.)
Breakdown: Missed his junior season with a leg injury. Carter looked close to being his old self. The Georgia pledge dropped well in coverage and did a great job rerouting TEs and RBs off the line in the half-field 7-on-7 period.
LB: Raekwon McMillan ('14), 6-1.5, 234, Liberty County (Hinesville, Ga.)
Breakdown: Could be the top defensive player in the state for the Class of 2014. He covers well in space and reminds some of the aforementioned Foster with his body frame and style of play.
DB: Demetrius Monday, 5-10, 186, Arlington Christian (Fairburn, Ga.)
Breakdown: Emerged as the sleeper of the bunch and caught the eye of the lead DB coach with his aggressive play. Last fall, he collected 45 tackles and four interceptions. Akron and Western Kentucky have offered.
DB: Brendan Langley, 6-1, 183, Kell (Marietta, Ga.)
Breakdown: One of the most impressive-looking athletes in the nation. Langley got beat twice in press coverage as he lost his leverage. However, he bounced back and was able to lock up WRs after learning from his mistake. Nominated to The Opening following the event.
DB: Shaq Wiggins, 5-10, 165, Sandy Creek (Tyrone, Ga.)
Breakdown: Wiggins has excellent quickness and can mirror slot receivers. He has great hips and measures in as an ideal nickel corner. The future Georgia Bulldog will be heading to The Opening this summer.
DB: Tray Matthews, 6-0, 190, Newnan (Ga.)
Breakdown: Finished off the day with a diving interception on the last play of one-on-one's. Matthews is a compact and rangy back-end defender. The Georgia recruit will join fellow Wiggins in the secondary at The Opening.
