ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals first baseman Matt Carpenter left Wednesday night's game against the Washington Nationals after being hit on the right hand by a pitch from Matt Grace in the seventh inning.
Carpenter was removed as a precaution and had X-rays, which were negative. The Cardinals won the game 4-2.
Carpenter leads the Cardinals with 33 home runs and is batting .277 with 68 RBIs.
Before leaving, he extended his on-base streak to 33 games. He has 17 homers and 30 RBIs during the run.
