Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Hector Noesi has opted out of the season after speaking with his family.
The 33-year-old, who pitched for the Miami Marlins last year, was attempting to make the team as a non-roster invitee.
"I definitely respect and appreciate his decision, but after talking to some family members, he just thought it was better for his situation to opt out," Pirates manager Derek Shelton said. "We're going to have situations where guys feel about certain things, and we're definitely going to respect them and make sure that they're supported in any way possible."
Shelton also said closer Keone Kela has yet to practice with the team but declined to elaborate on the reason for Kela's absence.
