Orioles place Tyler Wells on IL with elbow inflammation

The Baltimore Orioles placed starting pitcher Tyler Wells on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right elbow inflammation.

The right-hander was scheduled to start Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins. Wells, 29, last pitched on Friday, and the IL move is retroactive to Saturday.

Wells is 0-2 with a 5.87 ERA, 3 walks and 13 strikeouts in 15⅓ innings over three games this season.

In corresponding moves, the Orioles selected the contract of catcher David Banuelos from Triple-A Norfolk and designated infielder Livan Soto for assignment to make room for Banuelos on the 40-man roster.

Banuelos, 27, is a career minor leaguer who was 3-for-11 in two games for Norfolk this season. Soto, 23, had not appeared in a game for Baltimore this season after playing parts of the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
