Astros' Bregman out vs. White Sox; no structural damage to elbow

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is likely to miss all three games of a weekend home series against the Chicago White Sox with a right elbow injury.

Bregman underwent an MRI on Friday that showed no structural damage with the team electing not to put the veteran on the injured list for now.

The club is expected to recall infielder Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land, the Houston Chronicle reported. The 25-year-old fifth-round draft pick in 2020 has yet to make his major league debut and is batting .293 with 25 home runs and 91 RBIs in 108 games at Triple-A.

Bregman, 30, is batting .261 this season with a .764 OPS that is the lowest of his nine-year career. He has 19 home runs and 59 RBIs in 116 games.

A two-time All-Star and career .273 hitter, Bregman has 184 home runs and 647 RBIs in 1,082 games, all with the Astros.

In first place in the American League West, the Astros will play host to a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox after the White Sox leave town.
