Purdue's Caleb Swanigan declares for draft, won't hire agent

Purdue freshman Caleb Swanigan has declared for the NBA draft, the school announced Tuesday night.

Swanigan, a 6-foot-9 post player, will not hire an agent, meaning he can work out for NBA teams and attend the NBA draft combine before deciding whether to return to Purdue or keep his name in the draft.

Swanigan was ranked No. 9 in the ESPN 100 coming out of high school. In his first season with the Boilermakers, he averaged 10.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. He ended the regular season with a 27-point, eight-rebound effort against Wisconsin.

Swanigan's guardian is Roosevelt Barnes, a former Purdue football player who also played four years for the Detroit Lions. Barnes is now a sports agent who represents mostly NFL players.
