Wife's 'high-risk pregnancy' large factor in Andrew Bogut's choice to sit out rest of season

Veteran center Andrew Bogut announced Tuesday that he will not return to the NBA this season, forgoing a potential 10-day contract with a team.

The Los Angeles Lakers released Bogut in January.

In a statement on Twitter, Bogut said his wife is not allowed to travel during her "high-risk pregnancy," so he decided to stay with her in Australia rather than sign with a team.

Bogut, 33, played 23 games for the Lakers this season, averaging just 1.6 points and 3.4 rebounds. He was acquired by Cleveland Cavaliers in the second half of last season, but he fractured his left tibia just 58 seconds into his debut.

Bogut was chosen with the No. 1 overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2005 draft. He played seven years with the Bucks and four with the Golden State Warriors, with whom he won an NBA championship. Following his stint with the Warriors, Bogut spent parts of the 2016-17 season with the Dallas Mavericks as well as the Cavs.

He said in his statement on Twitter that he's still "working out and staying in shape" and looks to be ready for training camp next season.
