Jimmer Fredette, now playing for the Phoenix Suns, got a standing ovation Monday when he checked into their 125-92 loss to the Jazz in Utah.
Fredette is a hometown favorite in Utah, where was the National Player of the Year at BYU in 2010-11. Fredette led the NCAA's Division I in scoring, averaging 28.9 points during his senior season for the Cougars.
On Monday night, Fredette scored six points but was unable to recapture the BYU magic. His 1-for-10 shooting performance in 14 minutes was the worst of 237 career games in which he has attempted at least 10 shots.
He signed a contract with the Suns on Friday and played in Saturday's game against Sacramento, going scoreless in five minutes of play in a 112-103 loss.
Fredette played the past three seasons in the Chinese Basketball Association. In November, he scored 75 points for the Shanghai Sharks in a loss to Beikong. Fredette, 30, was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. The Milwaukee Bucks selected him and traded his rights to the Sacramento Kings.
The Suns are the fifth NBA stop for Fredette, who last played for the New York Knicks during the 2015-16 season.
In five NBA seasons, Fredette has averaged 6.0 points and 1.4 assists per game.
