Hawks sign former Sydney Kings forward Deng Deng

The Hawks have picked up former Sydney Kings star Deng Deng for the 2020/21 NBL season.

A basketball tourist, Deng has played around the world in professional leafues in Poland, Lebanon, Finland, Qatar and America in the NBA G-League.

Deng appeared in 19 games for the Kings in the 2018/19 season before he signed to the New Zealand Breakers last season as an injury replacement player.

Representing Australia in 2015 at the World University Games, Deng is a big signing for the Hawks.

"Deng will play an important role for The Hawks on and off the court next season," Hawks Head Coach Brian Goorjian said.

"We believe he has yet to hit his full potential in the NBL and look forward to helping him reach it. Deng is sure to be a player Hawks fans will enjoy watching next season."

The 28-year-old was excited to be working under Goorj and the new ownership team that had recently taken control of the club.

"It's really good to be with Goorj and the whole new ownership. I'm really excited," Deng said.

"I've known Goorj for quite a while now, I played under his brother Kevin Goorjian at Box Hill. I know what he brings to the table, [he's a] Hall of Fame coach and the style of game he plays, so I'm excited to be playing for him."
