Casper Ware to return to Sydney Kings

Casper Ware has signed a one-year deal to return to the Sydney Kings, sources told ESPN.

The American guard was one of five players to opt out of his NBL contract after the league introduced a series of salary-cutting measures, but has joined the likes of Bryce Cotton and Xavier Cooks by re-signing in Australia.

Ware was the Kings' leading scorer over the 2019-20 NBL season, averaging 17.9 points, along with 3.7 assists per game.

Sportando was first to report that Ware was returning to Sydney.

Ware began his NBL career with Melbourne United in 2016, leading the team to a championship during his three-year stint in the city. He signed with the Kings for the 2019-20 season, and helped Will Weaver's team to the best regular season record, and a Grand Finals appearance.

The 5'10 point guard, 30, was the highest paid import during the 2019-20 season, sources said.

Ware will join Cooks, Brad Newley, Craig Moller, Shaun Bruce, Dejan Vasiljevic, Angus Glover, and Didi Louzada on the Kings' roster for the upcoming season. Louzada's status, however, remains uncertain.

The NBL season is expected to start on December 3, though that date is subject to change due to the unknowns that have arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic.
