Netball Australia have announced the 2022 Super Netball season will get underway as early as March next year, with the season set to start and finish earlier than previous years in order to accommodate the Commonwealth Games.

Unlike previous seasons, which has seen Super Netball seasons start as late as May and August, the 2022 season will open on Saturday March 26 with the whole competition to be concluded by early July before the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, which will be held from Thursday 28 July to Monday 8 August.

The league has yet to confirm the fixtures list as they continue to work with new broadcaster Foxtel Group, including the Grand Final date, while the league is working to confirm the Team Girls pre-season competition which has not taken place since 2019 due to COVID-19 issues.

In a release, Super Netball have announced the new fixtures will include marquee rounds and matches, as well as new time slots.

Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan said the league has committed to deliver a 60-game season in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

"We're thrilled that a start date has been locked away, now our clubs and stakeholders have a date to work towards and fans can start to get excited for the start of the season," Ryan said.

"The Commonwealth Games is one of the biggest stages for our sport, and we have brought forward the season to ensure the Australian Diamonds and international athletes have the best possible preparation."

All eight Super Netball teams will return for the 2022 season with the NSW Swifts aiming to go back-to-back after securing the 2021 title.
