Los Angeles Rams cancel practice amid COVID-19 concerns

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay said a multitude of factors, including inconclusive COVID-19 tests, contributed to his decision to cancel practice and hold meetings virtually Friday.

McVay said he was informed Thursday evening that a player and staff member tested positive for COVID-19. The player and staffer were re-tested late Thursday and results came back negative, and they were re-tested again Friday morning and the results again came back negative.

Also contributing to Friday's practice cancelation were high winds at the team's practice facility in Thousand Oaks, California, as well as McVay's desire to limit the players' workload following their appearance on Monday Night Football in Tampa Bay.

"Had the weather been different, maybe I would have had a little bit different approach," McVay said. "But I do think it's also a really good thing for our players with how much we've traveled -- it being a short week -- and it was a credit to how they handled yesterday that made me feel comfortable making that decision."

The Rams (7-3) are in first place in the NFC West and are scheduled to play the San Francisco 49ers (4-6) on Sunday at SoFi Stadium. The 49ers have defeated the Rams in their last three meetings.

McVay said the Rams would hold a "jog-through" on Saturday.
