The NRL powered back onto the playing fields and into the lounge rooms of a footy-starved Australia last weekend. There were some incredible games with new rules and a single referee opening things right up.

Result: Things went from bad to atrocious for the Broncos as the Roosters flew into town and completely dismantled their defence. It is frightening to think what the score might have been had James Tedesco passed a temperature test to take is place in the line-up. The Morris twins continued their good form as Luke Keary put on a masterclass in attacking football. The Broncos players should spend a long hard week on the tackle bags.

Result: A week is a long time in football... one week after blanking the Dragons, the Warriors failed to hit the scoreboard against the ladder-leading Panthers in Campbelltown. Could the hub honeymoon be over? Warriors skipper Roger Tuivasa-Sheck looked sluggish at fullback, while for the Panthers, Matt Burton scores his first and then his second NRL try, and then Jarome Luai followed up his own kick to give the Panthers a commanding lead at half time. They ran away with it 26-0, and the performances of Burton and Luai will give coach Ivan Cleary a few headaches with son Nathan set to return to play in coming weeks...

Result: A rev-up from coach Craig Bellamy sure did help the Storm against the Bunnies, but there's still room for improvement. The game was in the balance until late in the piece, when Cameron Munster set up Josh Addo-Carr beautifully on the left side, and then 10 minutes later, Justin Olan walked in for an easy try from an Addo-Carr assist. The margin was 14 points, but it could have been much closer.

Result: There'll be a few irate Manly fans around after this one - they were denied the win after a last-minute try was called back due to a line-ball forward pass call against Tom Trbojevic. In fairness, Parra should have put the Sea Eagles away much earlier, but some slick second half work from Daly Cherry-Evans and Trbojevic dragged the men in maroon and white back into the contest.

Result: The Sharks were excellent up north despite scares before the game that up to six Sharks wouldn't be able to play after returning high temperatures on arrival to the stadium. Secondary tests cleared the group, but the Sharks still played hot football. Jesse Ramien crossed twice, as did Ronaldo Mulitalo, and the Cowboys never really got going at home.

Result: The Knights were very impressive, scoring early and continuing to rattle the Raiders right through an entertaining 80 minutes in Campbelltown. The Raiders fought back in the second half, but the Knights regrouped and held firm in defence. Kalyn Ponga was brilliant on his return and he was well supported by Dave Klemmer, Mitchell Pearce, Kurt Mann and Bradman Best.

Result: The Titans managed to win their first game in over 12 months with a stirring come from behind win over the Tigers in Brisbane. With the Tigers racing to a 12-0 lead early in the game, it looked like the Titans were in for a long and painful evening. But, they dug in to level the scores 12-12 at half time, before levelling up again 22-22 late in the game. When Benji Marshall kicked a field goal with three minutes remaining, it looked like their efforts had been in vain. They took a short kick-off, regathered the ball and scored the match winner with a minute remaining.

Result: The eyes of the NRL world will turn to Paul McGregor this week after the Dragons, for the second straight week, failed to cross the try line. The Dragons were dismal in the 22-2 loss to fellow cellar-dwellers in the Bulldogs, and the blowtorch will deservedly be on the coach. The Bulldogs -- specifically coach Dean Pay -- meanwhile, get some reprieve, and looked better than in previous weeks, crossing three times on the night.
