Kasey Kahne docked 15 points by NASCAR for rules infraction

NASCAR docked Hendrick Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne 15 points and fined crew chief Keith Rodden $25,000 for failing postrace rear-axle measurements following Kahne's fourth-place finish Sunday at Dover International Speedway.

Rodden said in a statement that some pieces bent unintentionally during the race. The team will not appeal.

"I'm disappointed in NASCAR's decision, but we have to accept it and focus on the upcoming races," Rodden said. "We have a great team with a lot of positive momentum that we hope to carry into the summer."

Kahne is going to need that momentum after falling from 16th to 20th in the standings because of the penalty. He sits 12 points behind 16th-place AJ Allmendinger with 14 races left before the 16-driver Chase for the Sprint Cup field is determined.

NASCAR also fined a BK Racing crew member, whom it did not identify, $1,000 for not having the proper safety equipment.
