Was Stuart Bingham the oldest man to win the world snooker championship? asked Martin Gregory
Stuart Bingham, who was born in Essex 39 years ago on May 21, 1976, is the oldest snooker world champion since Ray Reardon, who won the last of his six titles at the age of 45 in 1978.
Bingham is the oldest first-time winner since the 40-year-old Scot Walter Donaldson took his maiden title in 1947, and the oldest first-time winner ever at the Crucible, which has been the world championship's permanent home since 1977 (Dennis Taylor was 36 in 2005).
Stephen Hendry was the youngest world champion, aged 21 in 1990.
