British No.4 Kyle Edmund has reached the first round of the French Open for the first time in his career after beating Adrian Menendez-Maceira 6-1 6-4.

Jo Konta will be joining him at Roland Garros after breezing past Clothilde De Bernardi 6-2 6-1.

It will be Edmund's second consecutive Grand Slam after he made it to the first round of the Australian Open earlier this year. Edmund, 20, also received wildcards to the 2013 and 2014 Wimbledon tournaments off the back of his juniors success.

Konta, Britain's No.2, also has some experience at Grand Slams, reaching the second round of the US Open in 2012 aged 21.

Friday's victory against Spanish 12th seed Menedez-Maceira follows up Edmund's 6-1 6-2 win over Victor Hanescu in the previous qualifying round on Thursday.

Edmund will also link up with fellow British players James Ward and Andy Murray at this summer's Aegon Championships at Queen's Club after picking up another wildcard.

Ward failed to make it past the second qualifying round for Roland Garros, but Edmund, Murray and Konta will be joined by women's No.1 Heather Watson and men's No.2 Aljaz Bedene.
