Renee Montgomery, a two-time WNBA champion who spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Lynx, has signed a multiyear deal with the Atlanta Dream, it was announced Thursday.
Montgomery, a 10-year veteran who was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2009 WNBA draft, averaged 8.0 points and 3.4 assists last season for the Lynx.
"Leaving the Minnesota Lynx was difficult, but I'm excited to bring that championship experience to the Atlanta Dream," Montgomery said in a news release. "I live in Atlanta so I'm excited to come back east where I'm closer to family and friends and start a new journey with the Dream."
Dream coach Nicki Collen said Montgomery's "championship pedigree" will add important leadership to the team.
"I know she will help build something special here," Collen said.
Atlanta guard Bria Holmes recently announced she will miss the 2018 season due to her pregnancy. Angel McCoughtry, the four-time All-Star who sat out the 2017 WNBA season to rest due to her EuroLeague obligations, has not announced her plans for 2018.
Other free agent signings Thursday included Monique Currie going to Washington, Carolyn Swords and Tamera Young heading to Las Vegas and Sancho Lyttle joining Phoenix. Shekinna Stricklen resigned with Connecticut and Odyssey Sims is headed back to Los Angeles.
Las Vegas traded Kayla Alexander to the Indiana Fever for a second and third round pick in next year's draft.
