Storm's Loyd injures ankle, leaves early vs. Aces

Seattle Storm guard Jewell Loyd, the WNBA's No. 1 draft pick in 2015, was hurt early in Tuesday's 60-56 loss at the Las Vegas Aces. She rolled her right ankle on a breakaway drive to the basket in the first quarter and had to be helped off the court.

She later returned to the bench on crutches.

The Storm did not release any details about Loyd's status after the game. Injuries have been a big issue for the defending WNBA champions thus far. The Storm won't have 2018 league MVP Breanna Stewart all this season; she tore her Achilles tendon in Europe in April. Seattle is also without point guard Sue Bird, who is recovering from knee surgery. It's unknown when Bird might return.

Loyd is the Storm's second-leading scorer, averaging 15.8 points per game. She was the 2015 Rookie of the Year after being selected first following her junior season at Notre Dame.

Seattle next plays Friday at home against the Chicago Sky.
