SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Guard Marta Sniezek has transferred from Stanford to Notre Dame and will be immediately eligible to play for the national runner-up Fighting Irish next season.
In addition to suffering from shin splints and a shoulder injury, the 5-foot-8 Sniezek also had surgery on her hand and did not play last season for the Cardinal, who were ousted from the NCAA tournament by the Irish in the Chicago Regional title game.
Sniezek, who started 50 of the 108 games she played at Stanford, averaged 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game during her junior season. She is a two-time Pac-12 All-Defensive player.
She will be joined by guard Destinee Walker, who is transferring to Notre Dame from North Carolina.
Notre Dame's entire starting lineup was selected in the first 19 picks of this year's WNBA draft, including junior guard Jackie Young, who was the No. 1 pick of the Las Vegas Aces.
Coach Muffet McGraw is expected to have 10 scholarship players for next season.
