Louisville's season opener at Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday will not be played due to coronavirus-related protocols.
Middle Tennessee State said in a statement that its women's basketball team had two positive tests on Friday. Those tests initiated contact tracing protocols that ruled out additional people. The school did not specify if the positive tests came from players, coaches or other staff.
The fifth-ranked Cardinals are the highest-ranked team to lose their scheduled season opener thus far. Louisville's home game against Bellarmine on Dec. 6 was previously canceled after Bellarmine announced it was seeking to reschedule its first six games due to "unforeseen circumstances" and instead begin its first Division I season in mid-December.
A statement from Middle Tennessee State described the game against Louisville as postponed but did not specify a makeup date. The school also announced it was postponing its Nov. 29 game against Vanderbilt.
Louisville said it will instead play at Southeast Missouri State on Wednesday, replacing the canceled Middle Tennessee State game.
