Texas A&M star Janiah Barker is in the transfer portal, the school confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.
Barker, a 6-foot-4 forward from Georgia, was the highest-ranked recruit to sign with Texas A&M, coming in as the No. 3 prospect in the class of 2022 per ESPN HoopGurlz. She originally committed to Georgia when current Texas A&M coach Joni Taylor was still in charge there, but she followed Taylor to College Station when she got that job.
Barker only appeared in 19 games her rookie campaign due to injury but was the only freshman in the SEC to lead her team in scoring (12.7 PPG), while also putting up 5.9 rebounds per game on her way to earning SEC All-Freshman team honors.
As a sophomore this season, Barker's 12.2 points per game were tied for second on the squad, and she also averaged 7.6 boards, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals per contest.
Texas A&M played eventual national champion South Carolina tight in the SEC tournament quarterfinals, losing 79-68, before returning to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2021, when Gary Blair was still leading the program. The 11-seed Aggies fell to 6-seed Nebraska in the first round.
