Miami goes retro to the '80s and '90s for new-look uniforms

Miami unveiled its new uniforms Monday with a nod to its proud history, a retro look that mimics what the Hurricanes wore during their dominant decades in the 1980s and 1990s.

Dubbed "Legend of The U," the uniforms make their debut on Oct. 8 when the Hurricanes play rival Florida State at Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida.

The collaborative design between Miami and adidas Football paid close attention to the detail the teams wore all those decades ago, when they won four of their five national championships. Jersey numbers, stripes and logos were measured from archival products worn by the Hurricanes for an accurate representation in the new design.

The home look will feature orange jerseys with white pants. The away uniform, set to debut Thursday, Oct. 20 against Virginia Tech, will feature white jerseys with orange pants.

Beyond the jerseys and pants, the cleats will feature a sockliner with Sebastian the Ibis and a fire extinguisher, a nod to Miami's famous pregame entrance. Sebastian the Ibis is featured on the inside of player gloves, while the backside includes a patch that also replicates the gloves used during the '80s.
