When President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill that declared Nov. 11 would be Veterans Day in 1954, few could have imagined it would lead to Miami's 2015 football team wearing black uniforms. Yet here we are.
Several teams are using Saturday's stage to make shows of patriotism, but the Hurricanes (in conjunction with Adidas) have taken it to another level.
The cleats alone -- designed with a canvas/suede fabric to replicate the look of combat boots -- include reinforced Kevlar "for elite speed" and a lacing system modeled after gear carrying vests. The Canes' gloves and base layer also include camo elements, while the rest of the uniform is all black and not unlike the "305 Ice" white look the team wore earlier this season.
Salute.

Elsewhere in appreciating the military, UCLA (another Adidas school) will wear a similar base layer as well as stars and stripes in the script logo on its helmet.

Nothing new here from Vanderbilt -- which travels to Florida on Saturday -- but the Commodores' anchor helmet is too good not to include. Never has a helmet decal done so much good for a uniform.

It has now been 30 years since Iowa first wore the "America Needs Farmers" logo on its helmets. Here's a history lesson.
