ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Jim Harbaugh's doctors told him a couple weeks ago that he is going to need to be a "full-time glasses person" moving forward. The Michigan coach debuted some new frames in what turned out to be one of the more entertaining parts of his third-ranked Wolverines' 41-8 blowout victory over Illinois on Saturday.

The thick, black upper half of the frames looked strangely similar to the glasses former Ohio State coach Woody Hayes wore on the sideline for the Buckeyes. According to Harbaugh, that wasn't an accident. Hayes wasn't the only famous man to influence his new look.

"This style in particular is a tip of the cap, a nod to Woody Hayes, to Michael Douglas in the movie "Falling Down" and also a tip of the cap to Malcolm X," Harbaugh said Saturday night. "In honor of those three men."

Tuesday was Harbaugh's first day wearing the glasses full-time. His players said they are never surprised by the new and interesting things their coach does, but they were impressed with his choice.

"He seems likes he's trying to get a little more swagger," cornerback Jourdan Lewis said. "I don't know what's going on. He changed the khakis, too. He's evolving, but it seems to work right now."

After tearing through Illinois and the first seven games of the season like William Foster through the streets of Los Angeles, the looks seems to fit.
