TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- D.J. Pettway has signed his letter of intent to return to Alabama less than a year after being dismissed from the program for his involvement in an alleged on-campus altercation.
The 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive linemen was a junior college All-American at Eastern Mississippi Community College. He had 11.5 sacks a year after earning freshman All-SEC honors at Alabama.
Wednesday was the first day junior college players could sign letters of intent.
Pettway, a former four-star prospect out of Florida, was one of four players dismissed from Alabama in February for alleged involvement in an on-campus altercation. Pettway was arrested on two counts of second-degree robbery and promptly dismissed by coach Nick Saban.
Those charges are no longer pending, the school said Friday.
In March, Pettway was granted permission to attend school in Mississippi. He later received youthful offender status, which keeps records from public view.
Pettway will have two years of eligibility at Alabama, during which his enrollment "depends on his ability to fulfill all requirements the university has specifically mandated for him," the school said in a statement Friday.
