In less than 24 hours, more than 2,300 "Super Smash Bros. Melee" competitors have been narrowed to 32 as the competition prepares for Evolution Championship Series' Sunday finale at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Some of the biggest names have surprisingly fallen, while some new and old competitors have led upsets.

In Round 2 of pools, four of the "Five Gods" -- Juan "Hungrybox" Debiedma, Joseph "Mang0" Marquez, Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman and Adam "Armada" Lindgren -- advanced through the winner's side of their bracket.

But the night was full of surprises, as Mexican Fox player Javier "Javi" Dantes Ruiz took down Dallas Ice Climbers main Robert "Wobbles" Wright. Additionally, Fox legend Kashan "Chillindude" Khan took down Captain Falcon young gun Justin "Wizzrobe" Hallett. New Jersey Sheik James "Swedish Delight" Liu took down Tempo Storm's recent signing Johnny "S2J" Kim, knocking him into the loser's bracket.

Later on, up-and-coming Michigan Samus main James "Duck" Ma took down G2 Esports' new pickup Weston "Westballz" Dennis, putting Westballz into the loser's side. To advance to the top 32 in the winner's side of the bracket, Virginian and Ice Climbers player Daniel "ChuDat" Rodriguez took down Fox Zac "SFAT" Cordoni of Northern California.
