Thousands of teams register to compete in second season of RLCS

On Thursday, the Rocket League Championship Series Season 2 Open Qualifier wrapped up with over 6,000 teams signing up to participate. That's nearly double the amount of teams that signed up for Qualifier 2 of the first season.

The last two days of sign-ups had nearly 100 teams an hour being registered, accumulating over 31,000 players by the end.

With a prize pool of $250,000 and the inclusion of a midseason all-star event, tournament participation was expected to go up. Although a large portion of teams are not eligible and will not be allowed to participate, the expected turnout should still create a spectacle for the months to come.

The RLCS is spearheaded by the Twitch Esports team in conjunction with the Psyonix events team. The second season of the RLCS and will look to eclipse its first season with a larger prize pool and larger entry pool. The RLCS LAN location has not been announced yet, though sources say Twitch is looking to move it away from California for the second season.
