Valve announces dates for 2017 Dota 2 season

The Dota 2 International set another esports record in August with its $18.5 million prize pool. That's only $1.5 million shy of the Masters and U.S. Open pools combined. Valve

In a recent blog post, Valve announced the dates for both the upcoming Spring Major and The International 2017, as well as an update to the qualifier format for the Spring Major.

The Spring Major main event will take place April 20-23, with qualifiers running from March 6-13 to avoid conflict with third-party tournaments. The qualifier format for the Spring Major will be changed to accommodate more diverse regions. The Americas will be split into two regions: North America and South America. Europe will be split into Europe and CIS. No change to number of invites per region has been announced.

The International will remain in the first half of August, with qualifiers taking place on June 22-29.

The first major of the season is still set to take place in Boston on Dec. 3. The 16 teams are set to play in the first single-elimination major in Dota history in Boston's Wang Theatre.
