Update: Dignitas has announced the signings of Kim "Ssumday" Chan-ho and Lee "Chaser" Sang-hyun for 2017. "With the support of our partners at the Philadelphia 76ers, and these two new, unbelievable players, we are taking Team Dignitas' recruiting, development and performance to the next level," said Team Dignitas CEO Jonathan Kemp.
Team Dignitas of the North American League of Legends has signed former KT Rolster top laner Kim "Ssumday" Chan-ho and former Longzhu Gaming jungler Lee "Chaser" Sang-hyun for the 2017 League Championship Series season, sources close to the organization and players told ESPN.
Ssumday and Chaser will replace former Apex Gaming duo Jeon "Ray" Ji-won and Lee "Shrimp" Byeong-hoon. Both of those players have left the organization with their future uncertain after the signing of Ssumday and Chaser.
Ssumday signing with the team comes after he parted ways with his long-term team KT Rolster. That team signed former ROX Tigers top laner Song "Smeb" Kyung-ho late last month. Ssumday announced his free agency on Nov. 28 and was a possibility for three-time world champion team SK Telecom T1, but the team instead signed former Immortals top laner Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon.
Meanwhile, Chaser departed Longzhu after it cut almost its entire roster on Nov. 30. Throughout the offseason, Chaser spoke with several teams abroad, including European squad Misfits, but ultimately chose to sign with Team Dignitas, according to sources.
The players will join South Korean mid-laner Jang "Keane" Lae-young, who has obtained residency in the United States from playing for North American teams over the course of two years, as well as support Alex "Xpecial" Chu. The AD carry position, formerly held by Apollo "Apollo" Price, has yet to be filled.
Team Dignitas returned to the League of Legends competitive scene after it and League Championship Series team Apex Gaming were purchased by the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers in September. With the sale, Team Dignitas' brand absorbed Apex's League of Legends spot, marking its return to a scene from which they were relegated in April.
Team Dignitas declined to comment on this report.
