Soccer club F.C. Copenhagen and entertainment company Nordisk Film has signed the Danish Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team of Team Dignitas, the corporations announced today.

The companies will launch a new esports brand called NORTH, of which the Counter-Strike team will play under. This brand will be headed by former Elements owner and professional Dota 2 player Jacob "Maelk" Toft-Andersen, who will become the team's esports director.

"We are two leading companies within entertainment and sports venturing into esport at the very highest level," F.C. Copenhagen CEO Anders Hørsholt said in a press release. "We see great potential and have high ambitions with NORTH that will be among the world's strongest from day one."

The news confirms earlier reports by esports news site DOT Esports on Dec. 20 following the departure of the team from Team Dignitas just one day prior.

The team's first competition under the NORTH banner will be the ELeague Major, the first Valve-sanctioned Major of the year, which will take place in Atlanta beginning on Jan. 23.
